SUNNY AFTERNOON REVISITED

I

Between the taxman and the party crowd

All they’ve left’s my funeral shroud

I guess at least I’ll get a decent wake

Paparazzi stalking in the fog

I’m pleased it’s raining cats and dogs

I wonder how they learnt what is at stake

I’ve tried to find solutions everywhere

Impossible of course, since no one cares

This unpleasant, present cash flow thing

Could have been solved come next year’s spring

Sulking on this rainy afternoon

In wintertime

In wintertime

In wintertime

II

I’ve been a spendthrift, without doubt

The tax-maniac devil found me out

Well, money tends to shout back when it’s flaunted

My art collection’s sold, of course

As were my yacht and favourite horse

It’s disgraceful how they make a man feel haunted

It’s freezing cold since the heating bill was due

Less sure feels worse when you are feeling blue

My golden life turned into brass

I’m doomed to live as middle class

Listless on this rainy afternoon

In wintertime

In wintertime

In wintertime
